In February 2011, I traveled to Svalbard — 78° North — with artist Steve Rowell to visit the Svalbard Global Seed Vault with unprecedented access. This is a first-hand account of that trip, including a rare look inside the active vault, and an update on its ongoing challenges with climate change.
