This is the curatorial principle behind the Manual for Civilization: a collection of roughly 3,500 books most essential to sustain or rebuild civilization, assembled at Long Now’s venue The Interval in San Francisco with contributions from Brian Eno, Stewart Brand, Neal Stephenson, Kevin Kelly, and many others.
